Diver Tough is the weekly podcast duo of Walter Lyon and Josh Toth. The term "Diver Tough" originally started as a tongue-in-cheek term used by other sailors, to affectionately describe (or ridicule) the unique machismo and braggadocios attitude of the U.S. Navy Diving community. Typically accompanied with extreme levels of fitness, a "never-give-up" attitude, and the occasional homo-erotic undertone, Walter and Josh quickly embraced this moniker, despite their role as the only diver's permanently assigned to their submarine. To them, it was about exuding excellence in their job while otherwise never taking themselves too seriously. Like everything they do, creating a podcast was a fun outlet, but also a social risk the two fully embraced.
Walt spent 10 years in the US Navy where he was a Fire Control Technician and Navy Scuba Diver on board submarines. After 3 deployments and over 1200 days out-to-sea (and in the sandbox), he decided to call it quits and in 2010, he left the Navy.
Walt now enjoys his boring desk job managing the training and education programs for an engineering firm. When not with his family, he spends his time boxing, competing in obstacle course races, and investing in his love for primitive living. Walter currently resides in New Jersey.
Josh spent 5 years in the Navy as a Fire Control Technician and Diver. He left the Navy in 2006, and after graduating from the University of Connecticut in 2009, he began his civilian career in the financial services industry, and currently works as a Bank Compliance Officer. Josh currently resides in California., and in his free time, Josh loves spending time with his family, is involved at his local church, and is an avid fitness enthusiast.
